Masterclass Sustainable Chemistry (EN)

In-depth lectures and practicals for highly motivated students

Masterclass Sustainable Chemistry (EN)

Introduction

The demands on energy and resources in our current society are increasing. In order to satisfy these demands, sustainability and decarbonization are amongst the main societal challenges. It is of great importance to minimize the impact of the chemical industry on pollution, by designing products and processes that minimize the use and generation of hazardous substances (as reflected in the UN sustainable development goals). Therefore, chemistry is moving towards green and smart approaches both in research and industry.

In the masterclass Sustainable Chemistry, you will experience some of the innovative research taking place at the Van’t Hoff Institute for Molecular Science (HIMS) at the University of Amsterdam, in the field of solar energy conversion, carbon dioxide capture, materials chemistry and electrochemistry. Experts in this field will give lectures and lab experiments.

This will include lab experiments developing:

  • dye-sensitized solar cells for solar water splitting
  • “artificial leafs”, converting CO2 into valuable chemicals

The masterclass will be taught fully in English.
